ROBERT HANSEN New Zealand
Innlegg nr. 34 (11:48 26/12-98)
Your entry: Norge Sailing Ship "HOVDING" left Christiania (OSLO ) on 31st of May 1872 bound for Napier NEW ZEALAND with many Norwegian emmigrants with some Danish and Swedish families also. On board my Grt Grandparents Edvard HANSEN his wife Jorgine Larsdatter(daughter of Lars Jorgensen and Martha Pedersdatter..They had with them their 4 year old daughter Hanna Louise Hansen and shortly after leaving a son was born and named Christian and given the name of the ship as his second name "Hovding" Hansen.Other good family friends included VINGERS, TORKILDSENS, NEILSENS. Does anyone have records on these people of this voyage??Their families left behind?? Who was related to who??Where are the missing links?? EDVARD is said to have been born in Fredrikstad about 1840 and JORGINE in Drammen about 1849--They may have married in or near Tonsberg where Hanna was possibly born about 1868. Other childrens names may be a clue. These in order:Christian Hovding Hansen---Otto Martinius---Anna Marie---Erik----Elise Jorgine----Peter Edward------John Lewis----This family was among the pioneer settlers of the small town of Norswood in the Southern Hawkes Bay region of New Zealand. Edvard is thought to have had an older brother who was a ships captain and may have settled in Seattle about 1885 or there abouts. Any clues would be very much appreciated as I would dearly love to find my 1999 relatives in todays Norway.Kiwi Viking.

Her birthday may be incorrect. Children born in Norway are: Ole H. Nelson, born September 24, 1856, Christian H. Nelson, born July 23, 1860, Nickolos H. Nelson, born June 07, 1862, Andrew H. Nelson, born February 10, 1865 and Martin that died on the sea voyage. to America in 1867. Ole claimed to be born at Kristiana, but he was not found in the birth records there. The family emigrated to America through Quebec and are first found at Goodhue County, Minnesota, with the birth of another son, Martin, born January 8, 1868. Christened at the Hof church. Martin died April 10, 1869. The last record of the family in that location was in 1871. They are at Madison, Lac Qui Parle County, Minnesota in 1880 census. Family letters indicate there was an Andreas Nelson and wife Berthea, with children Johann and Karin, locations unknown until Andreas Nelson’s death December 30, 1913, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Your entry: Hei! Barn: (Hans) Laurits født 14.7.1851, min farmors morfar Ole født 1853 Johan født 1848 Christian 1845 Marius født 1843 I all senere leting heter Hans Lauritz Kristoffersen DAHL.

Innlegg nr. 88 (18:47 26/01-98)
Your entry: I have just discovered this site, and am heavily into my genealogy. However, I don't have much of my Bredberg line discovered yet. Here is what I know: - My grandfather was Albert A. Bredberg, 1868-1958, who was born in Sweden and died in California, USA. - Albert's parents were Par Bredberg, 1804-1901, who married Breita (Martha) Hoglund (Hartman). - Par was born in Altsjon Jamtland, Sweden. He was a Baptist minister. He had a brother, Jonas Bredberg. - Albert had a sister, Karen Bredberg, who emmigrated to Canada. He also had a brother (Name unknown). - Par had a sister, Froken (Miss) Johanna Hoglund. I will very much appreciate any "ties" which anyone can find, to my family. I will be very happy to share with you, whatever data I have.

Your entry: Searched your pages, and although I didn't find my Norwegian ancestors in the immigrant lists, I was able to find the name of the ships they may have emmigrated on. Great information you have on here. I am looking for the family of Karoline HANSDATTER/JOHNSON-who may have lived at the Sveen farm, in the vicinity of Dokka, Norway. Karoline immigrated to the USA in 1885, and settled in Iowa. She brought at least 2 children with her. Edward(Even) Helmar Johnnesen, b. 1872 in Land. Parents were Johannes Johannesen and Karoline Hansdatter on birth record. Anna Johnsen, b. 14 May 1883 in Dokka, Norway to Karoline- but don't know if Johannes was her father. Karoline changed all their names to Johnson, after arriving in the USA. She may have had a brother, Peter Hansen, who also immigrated to the USA. Anna said she had a sister, Nettie. Having found Nettie's marriage certificate, it lists her father as Ole FURUSITH and her mother as Karoline SVEEN. Nettie married Ole BROVALD in the USA and lived in Bode, IOWA. Anna lived in Rutland, Iowa and married Chris Gregerson, moving to Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1903. Karoline was an expert seamstress and tailor. She never married in the USA and died in 1902. With all the last names, and not much information, this family has been hard to search for. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Dee

Innlegg nr. 157 (16:42 22/05-97)
Your entry: We are hoping to find more information on my husband's grandfather who came to Canada from the U.S. after emigrating from Norway possibly in the 1890s. This is what we have so far: Christian Pederson was born in Norway, probably in the 1870s, and as a young man he and a brother emigrated to the United States, where Christian met and married Carrie Fosmark. Carrie was born in North Dakota in 1884, the eldest daughter of Johannes Johanneson Fosmark (born 1853 in Bruvik, Norway) and Anna Nielsden (born 1854 in Stanghelle, Norway), who emigrated to the U.S. in 1880 and settled in Barnes County, North Dakota, between Fargo and Bismarck. It is not known when or where the two Pederson brothers parted company, but it is assumed that Christian lived in or near Barnes County, where the Fosmark family lived. The brothers were supposed to have changed their surname to Pederson from Kringlen (or similar) after arriving in the U.S. Christian and Carrie Pederson came to Canada sometime between 1912 and 1916, and first settled near the town of Asquith, Saskatchewan. Christian died in Saskatchewan in the late 1940s, and Carrie died near Radisson, Saskatchewan in 1974 at the age of 90. Many thanks to anyone who can provide further information. Barbara

Your entry: I wrote here about a month ago, and since have had several people reply to me. I now believe that I've located the birthplaces of both of my grandparents. Now I'm hoping that I can connect with someone from Nordoyvagen on the island of Donna or , someone from Leirfjord particularly the Brejland farm. Both are in Nordland. I'm so very thankful to everyone who has helped me. My grandparents came to America in 1903 and 1904 , first to Stoughton, Wisconsin and then up to Canada on the north shore of Lake Superior. The countryside here is very similar to that about Oslo. We even have many of the same trees, and other plants. Perhaps that is why so many Scandinavian people have settled here. I'm hoping that perhaps one of my distant relatives is on the Net, and we can compare notes. Thanks so much ! Annmargaret ( Breiland) Engberg mengberg@baynet.net

Hans Jorgen ALBERTSEN (my g-grandfather) and his brother Hans Christensen ALBERTSEN sailed from Hamburg on the barque Wiedemann, arriving in Sydney in 1856. From there, they went to the Peel River Diggings, near Tamworth in NSW. He has since fallen into a black hole, so I would love to find out if it is true. The parents were Rasmus Hansen ALBERTSEN (b. 1876) and Johanne ALBERTSDATTER (b.1798). He was originally a farmer, turned smallholder and (I believe) carpenter. Other members of the family migrated to the U.S. Please contact me if you can help. Your entry: I am enjoying researching your pages. I am trying to locate any relatives in Dokka or Oslo Norway areas who may have information about my Great Grandmother, Caroline Johnson, who immigrated to USA in 1885. She settled in the state of Iowa. She brought 3 children with her, Edward Helmer Johnson, born approximatly in 1872-73, and died Oct.2, 1958 in Haney, Canada. Nettie, born May 8, 1875 in Dokka, Norway and died Jan. 18,1968 in Bode, Iowa USA, and Anna (Annie) born May 14, 1883 in Dokka, Norway and died Aug. 2, 1967 in Webster City Iowa USA. Caroline was a seamstress-there has never been any mention of her husband, I don't believe one came with her from Norway. She died in 1902 at Humboldt, Iowa USA. Caroline may have had a sister Minnie, who also immigrated to USA, Omaha, Nebraska area. Annie is my Grandmother and was married to Chris Gregerson. Perhaps their name was Johnsdatter while in Norway. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me on this family before they left Norway. Thank you very much. Deloris Naughton

Ernestine had been disinherited by a cruel stepfather She was a cousin to the Queen of Sweden,

of the family money. The reason she was disinherited was she had fallen in love with John Johnson, a commoner
with a small daughter. John was anxious to come to America. John and Ernestine eloped and settled in
Omaha Nebraska. There they had 3 more daughters. Any infomation on this story would be very helpful.

My grandfather was a Swede born in Vaasa, Finland. My father's family (HELGESON) is Norwegian,
but I don't even know when the family first came to the US or where they came from in Norway.
Any suggestions on how to search would be appreciated. I'm very new at this

Your entry: Jeg bor i Arendal, tlf. 37016346 (priv.) 37021147 (arb.)
Men hennes slekt kom
Caroline f. i Sogndal (i Sogn, trolig) i 1820. T.E. døde 1897, C.E. 1906 i Tvedestrand. Osuf Larsen Vig ble
ganske riktig født i Tvedestrand 26/5 1888 (dpt. 24.6.s.å.) Faddere: Karoline Ellingsen, Teresie Raakind,

name was Tom and his wife's name was Gunhild Rygnestad. Tom came to the US in about 1852 and Gunhild in

Tom was born 14 April 1851 and Gunhild was born 31 May 1866. Any assistance would be very greatly appreciated.
